Andrew Shongwe

Hi. My name is Andrew Shongwe, a 23 years old male from Pretoria. I’m a second year B.A. student at the University of the Western Cape majoring in Sociology and Anthropology.
I am a volunteer of the UWC HIV/AIDS Programme and work closely with the Director of the Programme, Dr Tania Vergnani. We deal with issues around teaching, research, care and support, community outreach, advocacy, prevention and management. For the last two years I have been attending and organizing workshops on HIV/AIDS and related issues. Every month, I distribute condoms in the university residences. I am doing Peer Education on Gender issues in the residences. Currently, I am busy compiling a new HIV/AIDS Audit for the year 2004. The Audit includes aspects and information on all the services provided, i.e. research, teaching, presentations, publications, and community outreach done by UWC staff and students.
I would like to extend my gratitude to Prof Bob Wolff for the financial assistance that he had provided to me and the rest of the USSAS bursary holders. The bursary has helped a lot in developing new ideas and knowledge in the field of HIV/AIDS. And I would like to see USSAS bursaries continue for the next 100 years. Thank you very much.
