Sabelo Sikhakhane

No picture. Died of AIDS, 2004.

"I am a youth worker, working with young people who are sexually exploited. These are young boys and girls between the ages of 11 – 18 years. We invite them to the Centre and work with them in terms of training and some intervention programmes. As young as they may be, a majority we work with have HIV/AIDS. We do counseling with them and also give them some advanced information on HIV/AIDS. Another challenge is the exploitation in the streets where they work and live. I also work with the community of Warwick [market] doing some literacy programmes, since some never attended school in their lives. Due to my experience as both a volunteer worker and a youth worker, I was selected to go and represent Youth workers [South Africa] in Northern Ireland at a world conference. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for giving me the opportunity to help those who cannot help themselves."
